It is very important to point out the signs that your gutter system needs repairs. Whether you are located in Memphis or the surrounding areas, contact us to check your gutters for needed repairs/replacements. Here are a few signs to look out for.
1. Paint Peeling or Rust is forming.
If you notice paint chips around the foundation of your home, there could be parts of your gutter exposed for rust to form. If rust is beginning to form, it is crucial to have your gutter repaired to prevent holes from forming and causing expensive damage to the foundation of your home.
2. Gaps have formed between your home and gutters.
If gaps have started to form between your gutters, water will leak through causing damage to your home’s foundation and/or attic. It is always important to look for any gaps in your gutters. Usually, you can tell that there is a gap if you see sunlight or water leaking between your gutters and roof.
3. Improper Slope
If your gutters are sloped at an improper angle or slope, there could be unnecessary weight in your gutters. There are many different reasons why your gutter may be improperly sloped such as a clog in your gutters, rotting in the fascia, missing fastener, etc.
4. Pools of Water around your home’s foundation.
Pools of water naturally will form when it rains but they should not be forming directly next to your home’s foundation. If there is water forming close to your home’s foundation, water could leak into your basement/foundation and cause structural damage. This could be caused by water overflowing from the sides of your gutters, cracks or holes in your gutter system, or even gaps between your home and the gutter system.
5. Mildew or Staining in your home’s attic.
It is important to check your home’s attic for mildew or water staining in your home’s attic. If there is an excess of mildew or water staining near the edges of your attic, it could mean that water is flowing correctly into your gutters.
6. You notice hardware around your home’s foundation.
If you notice hardware around your home’s foundation such as screws, nails, gutter hangers, rivets, or other gutter hardware, your gutters and home could be at risk of damage.
7. Water is overflowing from the sides of your gutters.
If water is overflowing from the sides of your gutters, more than likely your gutters are clogged and not able to drain. Especially if you live in an area with a lot of trees, your gutters can get clogged easily if you do not have your gutters cleaned frequently or have a gutter guard installed.
